Oklahoma ALTA Summer Conference

Morning Session: Key Note Speaker Nancy Hannegan. Title of session: Extending Reading Intervention Through Comprehensive Dyslexia Management; Description: Many students with dyslexia make measurable progress in decoding and encoding through Structured Literacy and Orton–Gillingham intervention, yet continue to struggle meeting classroom expectations independently across the school day. This session explores a comprehensive management approach to dyslexia that extends beyond intervention and supports students in navigating written expression, processing demands, executive functioning, academic stamina, and self-awareness within authentic learning environments. Participants will leave with practical strategies that help students transfer intervention skills into classroom performance while developing greater independence, confidence, and investment in their learning and personal value.
Afternoon Session 1: Speaker - Dr. Laura Gautreaux, CALT-QI.; Title of session: Assessment as a Roadmap: Using Data to Drive Literacy Instruction. Laura is the owner/director of Encouraging Words Learning Center in Oklahoma CIty, Oklahoma serving dyslexic students and students with reading and language difficulty, Laura will be speaking on dyslexia screeners, assessment and data.
Afternoon Session 2: Speaker - DeeAnn Jones, Project Director of the Oklahoma Strong Readers Act, Oklahoma Department of Education. Title of session: Strong Readers 2026: What's New and WHat it Means for Your Disctirct. DeeAnn will be speak on the newly revised legislation Strong Readers Act, providing information on the updates and procedures which will early literacy instruction and intervention and students with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
