Dyslexia without Borders: Stories and Perspectives - .75 CE

Maria Canning & Rebecca Warner

Over the past decade, countries like the United States and England have made significant progress in dyslexia awareness and advocacy. Research has strengthened identification, teaching practices, educator training, and effective accommodations. Legislative wins and redesigned curricula have created more dyslexia-friendly environments, while a growing appreciation for dyslexic thinking highlights unique strengths.

Dyslexia, however, is global. Advocacy efforts are expanding worldwide, and by learning from other countries, we can strengthen our own approaches. Beyond academics, understanding the emotional and psychological experience of dyslexia is essential to supporting confidence and life skills.

Across cultures, shared experiences emerge. Families and individuals—from Kenya to Japan to England—face similar challenges, revealing the universal emotional impact of dyslexia.

Maria’s story reflects resilience through lifelong challenges and growth. Rebecca’s perspective as a parent reveals both heartbreak and pride. Together, these experiences show that sharing stories can connect us, shift perceptions, influence policy, and better support individuals with dyslexia everywhere.
