Taking a Broader View of Neurodivergence - A Social and Emotional Developmental Understanding - .75 CE

Rusty Miller, LCSW, ASDCS

Understanding the social and emotional developmental processes that help to shape learning and regulation is essential for those serving students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. In this session, Rusty Miller explores how the Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities and their impact on the central nervous system influence attention, self-regulation, and cognitive engagement—key factors that impact reading and language therapy outcomes. Drawing from his clinical work with neurodiverse children, including those with ADHD, autism, and sensory processing challenges, Rusty integrates evidence-based, therapeutic approaches that can complement multisensory structured language intervention. Participants will leave with deeper insight into how the neurobiological processes of social and emotional development can inform therapy practices, enhance student resilience, and support optimal learning environments.
