Thursday, June 5, 2025 | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM ET | 2 CEs

Live via Zoom

Dyslexia and autism are two distinct neurodevelopmental conditions, yet they frequently co-occur, mimic, or mask each other, making accurate diagnosis and effective intervention challenging. This session, led by Dr. Karin Varblow, will explore the critical differences and surprising similarities between dyslexia and autism, shedding light on how these conditions intersect in cognition, communication, and learning.

Objectives:

  • Explore the latest research on neurodiversity, executive functioning challenges, and sensory processing in dyslexia and autism.
  • Learn practical strategies to create a supportive and structured learning environment for neurodiverse individuals.
  • Discover effective communication techniques and individualized engagement strategies for educators, therapists, and parents.
  • Identify key accommodations that enhance learning outcomes for individuals with dyslexia and autism.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of how to recognize, differentiate, and support individuals with neurodiverse needs.
  • Gain essential tools to promote success in both academic and social-emotional development.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr. Karin Varblow

Dr. Varblow does not practice medicine the way most doctors do. She has forged her own path, and this makes a profound difference to her patients and their families. On paper, Dr. Varblow looks very much like many other doctors. She got her BA from Duke University and her MD from The George Washington University School of Medicine, where she was a National Health Service Corps Scholar. She completed her Pediatrics residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital for Children, which was then affiliated with the University of Virginia.

But take a look between the lines, and you begin to see that Dr. Varblow is a unique behavioral pediatrician who will truly and deeply understand your child and your family. She is a former educator and social worker, a former general pediatrician, a current mom with neurodiverse family members, and an individual with ADHD herself. Each step in her journey led her to the inevitable role she created for herself: that of Neurodivergence Specialist with expertise in medication management, parent support, behavior modification, care coordination, neurodivergence
advocacy, and strategy development. Her patients’ families refer to her not only as their doctor, but also their cheerleader, navigator, case manager, educator, advisor, and go-to source of wisdom, compassion, and life-changing transformation.
