New legislation came into effect this year requiring school districts to use a universal reading screener with all students K-2, as well as administer a follow-up assessment for any students who miss the cut off score, and to develop a reading intervention for all students who miss both cut-off scores. Districts have asked for more guidance on what this means specifically for English Learners (ELs). This conference is
meant to help stakeholder teams (ESOL teachers, reading and writing specialists, and administrators) to reflect on their approach to developing EL literacy, the screening tools they use, and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports they have developed specific to reading interventions (MTSS-R). Together we will reflect on best practices and come up with district-specific plans of action.
