Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning® has become known as the conference for the latest research and dialogue on effective reading instruction and assessment. With carefully curated presenters and exhibitors, Plain Talk allows you join like-minded educators and decision makers from across the globe. Our attendees learn the current findings on literacy instruction, difficulties and intervention, as well as strategies that put this knowledge to work. In 2023, Plain Talk was attended by approximately 2,500 state and district office administrators, principals, teachers, teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and other technical assistance providers. Approximately 26% of attendees are from Louisiana, and the remaining 74% were from 47 other states, Canada and 5 other countries. Our 2024 conference is sold out and we are expecting attendees from all 50 states and 5 countries.
The Center for Literacy & Learning’s mission is to advance literacy and learning through evidence-based practices in the classroom, home, and community. The Center works to train, support, and coach educators to ensure every child can enter kindergarten school-ready and reading on grade-level by third grade. Through one of the nation’s premiere literacy conferences, Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning®, we facilitate the dissemination of leading science-rooted reading research and practices. The Center also fosters at-home learning opportunities through our family engagement reading initiative, Louisiana Reads!, which seeks to educate parents on literacy engagement and provides ownership of reading resources. Finally, we lead grassroots advocacy efforts to champion change in educational policy and practice.
