Description: Developing Metacognitive Skills: Jan. 23, 30; Feb. 20, 27, 2020, 5:30pm – 8:30pm (Thursday Evenings, parts 1-4) Developing Metacognitive Skills, a Neuhaus Education Center program, builds foundational skills for oral language, vocabulary, world knowledge, and working memory, and uses research-based strategies to develop comprehension. DMS provides lessons and activities for developing vocabulary and metacognitive skills to reinforce decoding and fluency. This program, which is an excellent program for teachers teaching grades 3 through 8, focuses on three different levels: • Listening Comprehension • Transitional Metacognition • Guided Metacognition The lessons introduce strategies for understanding narrative text, expository text, poetry, and graphs. Manual and materials included. *This class is a prerequisite for the Basic Language Skills Advanced Course.
